There are plenty of SEO mistakes that will made along the way.

It takes consistent work and a lot of effort to optimize your website and it can be time consuming. There are many people that come online and think if they do it they will immediately see the results and get a lot of sales. But it is not like that at all. If I had to choose the biggest mistake that most people make (including myself) in regards to using SEO correctly, is that we do not know all the guidelines. Yes we get tips and keys and such but why not just go to the search engines that are doing the ranking? After all it is them that we are trying to please right?

SEO Mistake #2 - Ignoring the use of Heading Tags

If you are writing a blog or a website post, you must learn to use the HTML tags that search engines look at. Inside the tags that you use make sure that you are using your keywords. The searching engine bots or spiders pay attention to these heading and will continue to you read your site if they are correct and present and it helps to build relevancy. Your content has to match your site name.

SEO Mistake #3 - Wrong use of keywords

This is a biggie for most people. It is easy to get wrong and to abuse. First off in your Meta tag you should be using your keywords in the title and the description. Your keywords should not be generic. Not everyone who types in the word computer wants to go to sites that have a computer business in Topeka Kansas. There is an art to keyword picking. The first thing you must do is hone your keyword down to a precise highly targeted keyword and that can mean multiple words, like; computer store in Topeka Kansas. There are a lot of free keyword tools out there find one that you like and use it. I use Wordtracker and traffictravis. You simply type in your keyword and they will show you the searches and possibly other terms that are near to it that can be searched. Make sure there are not a zillion competing pages and that there is some search volume and go from there.

One of the search engine optimizing techniques is to put your keyword in your article 1-4%. It is called density. However there are places that you can submit articles to that only allow 1% so don't do it to much. If you get up as high as 4% then it will look like you are spamming. For your website it is good to keep the writing natural and add the keywords where they should go.

SEO Mistake #5 - In too big of a hurry

SEO takes time. It has to happen with a natural progression. You must use a slow and constant effort to optimize your website. Some people want it all done and finished with, the money rolling in and voila. But it does not happen that way and doing things to quickly can also cause the search engines to penalize you. You build your links slow and steady and you get traffic slow and steady and the search engines spider your site more often.

You need to use all the tools at your disposal in order to make the whole of SEO work for you. That means besides the on website SEO, you must also do offsite SEO. This means that you should; Write many articles and submit them to article sites for linking, visit forums, create blogs, and get into social sites, like Facebook and twitter. You need to do link exchanges and one way links. Links are one way to show your site is popular and the search engines like that.

Don't become overwhelmed in SEO, take it slow and easy and do a bit of it at a time. If you have put up a website then you are planning on being around awhile. Just realize that nothing happens in a day.
